FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Alan Goldstein will be glad to answer any questions you have. Meanwhile, maybe you'll find helpful answers here.
What can you tell me about price?
I have several different pricing structures, depending on the project. For example, the price for the fully-finished color portrait retouched, sprayed, textured, and mounted will depend on size and mounting options. Of course, I will always provide a firm quote once I learn what your needs and wishes are. Here are the basics for sittings and finished photographs:
-
Sittings for Black-and-White Portraits start at $125
-
Sittings for Color Portraits start at $75
-
Fully-Finished Color Portraits start at $75 for an 8X10
-
Children's Packages start at $150 for 3 sheets of prints (mixed
sizes) from one pose
I have a separate price list for our B&W portraits, which are printed on fiber-based
paper rather than the RC paper most folks are used to.
Please note: prices are subject to change without notice.
I want to have a business portrait done. Should it be in color or black-and-white?
Even though I especially enjoy doing anything in B&W, most business photographs are for use in newspaper ads and on business cards, and many customers will prefer to have them reproduced in color. A color sitting is actually less expensive. If a customer wants something a little different even dramatic then B&W may be the way to go. Please look over my B&W gallery to see what I mean.
What should I wear for my portrait session?
Clothing is a very important element in creating a fine portrait. I like to discuss the session in advance to find out who I will be photographing, how many people will be in the portrait, how creative you want the portrait to be; and to make suggestions as to the type and color of clothing to wear. Generally, solid colors are best. I find subdued tones to be best because they don't take away from the subject. When photographing groups, it is especially important to coordinate the colors.
How long does a photo shoot take?
A typical session lasts half an hour. Unique situations (like this one of the ten puppies) can take longer. I don't like to take too long when photographing children because their attention spans are limited, and I could lose them.
How long before I receive my portraits?
From the time you are photographed to the time you can view your previews is approximately two weeks. After you have made your selections, the time it takes to deliver the final product depends on the amount of finishing that has to be done to the negatives and prints. Here's a a rule of thumb: From the time your order is placed, a child's package can be delivered in three weeks, and a fully-finished portrait can be delivered in four weeks.
